ARTIST'S STATEMENT

I am a Brazilian born artist and architect based in New York City. In my works I address the universal suffering of modern society and explore possibilities for healing. Through the unique combination of art and architecture, inspired by perfect geometries found in nature, I create drawings and installations infused with energies of love and harmony.

I am called by an energy and power greater than myself to transmit my love for humanity and the world. Art is my response to the desire to be more engaged and present with life. Specifically, my passion is the interaction of art and architecture. This is the instrument I use to contribute to healing the frictions of a divided world.

When I was six years old and living in Brazil, my family visited Brasilia, which had recently been inaugurated as our country’s capital. The president at the time, Juscelino Kubitschek, nearly bankrupted the country to build the new capital. But we valued the investment: it instilled a national pride beyond description. The moment that opened my eyes and defined my life’s path as an artist occurred when I walked for the first time into the Cathedral of Brasília, designed by influential architect Oscar Niemeyer. The stained glass that clad the building threw dancing shadows on the floor. Inside the space, everyone walked around awestruck. I knew right then that I wanted to evoke that kind of emotion in people.

The pursuit of beauty has been an ongoing dedication in my life - a belief in and commitment to the betterment and transformation of others through a journey of bringing into existence works of art that could evoke this sentiment.

My art is inspired by the sacred geometries that have long been known to align us with the possibilities of universal connections. I seek knowledge and sources that will provoke visions for relationships in the larger scheme of life. The creative process springs from moving beyond the surface layers that constitute our conditioning and are intrinsic to being human by delving deeper into the emotional layers of ourselves and creating new pathways to reach universal connectedness. This pursuit requires surrender and a willingness to enter a larger consciousness where subtle energies will guide our understandings and expressiveness.

My art is based on the premise that transcendence is possible through spaces that are grounded in the integration of art and environment. My projects are directly related to or influenced by site and the materials are chosen accordingly. I strive to use local and recycled materials. The outdoor public sculpture for the library building in Spring Arbor, Michigan was designed focusing on the local materials and native plants.

I begin each project with a mood of curiosity and exploration. Throughout the creative process I access latent feminine energies that embrace flow and movement and manifest beauty and spiritual qualities. I think in three-dimensional forms and bring this sense of awe and scale to each project and installation. My commitment is to generate works that will have their own voice - speaking a universal language through form and substance. My installation titled Inequality Matters addresses the widening gap existing between societies that is so prevalent nowadays and is a reflection of this process.
